The swift and powerful monarch of the ocean gets away from it all … with a little help from his (super) friends.
San Diego Comic-Con starts this week. We love SDCC and will have plenty to say about it. But we’re also going to bring you some offbeat counter-programming — Comics: Italian Style. Why Italy? Because I just got back from there and there’s plenty to say comicswise! But first, we bring you this little adventure …
—
Where does the King of the Seven Seas go for vacation? Why, land, of course! And where better than Italy, one of the most beautiful nations on Earth — with very Atlantean architecture and ruins!
Arthur could certainly swim there, but flight is faster, so it’s up, up and away from Metropolis Airport …
Now, Atlantis is right about here …
The Vatican offers such a wide array of art …
Wait … who wrote this on the walls of Rome?
The Trevi Fountain is being rebuilt. Too bad. I could use a dip …
“Carter! What are you doing at the Colosseum?”
“Just here studying the architecture, Arthur. Magnificent, isn’t it? Now, I must catch up with Skreel …”
St. Peter’s … how majestic. I must show this to Mera.
Aaaah, finally.
If I can’t swim across town …
Cinecitta! Where Fellini made so many great films! Behold the head from Casanova!
And now for some refreshing gelato …
On to Florence! A room with a view!
“Barry! What are you doing here?”
“Just running around the world, trying to catch Blue Bolt, Arthur. But I have a few seconds to spare to show you the glorious detail of Il Duomo.”
“You’re always running, Barry. Slow down and check out David. You’ll be able to catch up to Blue Bolt.”
“Hey, I can outrun horses!”
“Arthur, you weren’t kidding about the gelato. I should slow down more often!”
“Look, Barry, it’s a statue of Neptune!”
“Wow, that was fantastic, Arthur. I can circle the globe in seconds but I never stop long enough to take it all in. Gotta go, though … “
” … because I can’t let Blue Bolt get away!”
“Good luck, Barry! I’ll just stay here and make sure Lucy Honeychurch is OK.”
Ah, and now Venice.
That’s right! NO MAFIA!
The Vaporetto. A mighty way to travel.
But I would really like to go for a swim.
“I am Robot Shark! Sent by Vassa, Queen of the Mermen, to DESTROY YOU!”
“Come here, you! A little rewiring, combined with my aquatelepathic abilities, and … “
” … there! Isn’t that better?”
Let’s take in a gondola ride.
And see the Palace of the Doges.
Here I must leave you, my robot friend. They do not allow sharks on the train back to Rome …
…
Hey, you made it! … You didn’t eat anyone, did you … ?
The Pantheon! Truly Atlantean in scale!
And that’s an open-air hole at the top. It allows the rain in. Refreshing!
Didn’t I tell you about the gelato?
But it’s time to make our leave. My kingdom needs its ruler. Farewell Roma!
Come Robot Shark, join me in my next adventure!

Your travelogue is very entertaining. More enjoyable than sitting in a plane for 7 hours.
