Spidey vs. the Sinister Six! A variant that hits the right buttons…
Marvel’s September solicitations are out Thursday and what jumped out at me was this gorgeous variant cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #34, pencilled by John Romita Jr. and inked by his father, the late John Romita Sr.:
That’s a real beaut and its unveiling is bittersweet, coming barely a week after Romita Sr.’s death at 93. You can add this one to my pull list right now.

A few thoughts:
— I haven’t gotten John Romita Sr. out of my mind since he died. His art was so wonderful and enriching.
— The Romitas’ variant, as you see above, will have both virgin and trade-dress versions. I almost always go for the trade dress.
— Marvel did not release the covers by Gleason and Samnee.
