A Rainy NEAL ADAMS BATMAN Illustration to Brighten Your Day

THE NEAL ADAMS CHRONICLES: The gloomier, the better…

Welcome back to THE NEAL ADAMS CHRONICLES, a new, regular feature about comics’ greatest artist, produced in conjunction with Adams’ family. You can read more about what this is all about over here. (You’ll want to.) Dig it. — Dan

I don’t know what the weather is like where you are but as I write this, it’s a gloomy, overcast, late summer afternoon. It may rain later. And if it does, just think of this magnificent illustration by the late, great Neal Adams:

Drawn on gray paper

Good lord. Adams never failed to boil the Darknight Detective down to his essence.

The drawing is available at the Neal Adams Store for a straight $5,000.

Says 13th Dimension columnist Peter Stone, Adams’ son-in-law: “Moody, nighttime scene. Fully penciled and rendered by Neal Adams with hand-drawn raindrops. High quality piece from Neal in gray tones. These kinds of pieces are getting few and far between. That’s something to think about.”

He’s right. Neal left us with an enormous legacy but there are only so many original pieces like this to go around anymore.

Man.
