1966 BATMAN Movie PENGUIN SUBMARINE Going Up for Auction

On land, you may command. At sea, it is me…

Well, this isn’t something you see every day: One of the Penguin Submarine models used for the 1966 Batman movie is going up for auction.

Dig the official description from Heritage Auctions:

Batman, “Penguin Submarine” Filming Miniature. Vintage original filming miniature crafted of fiberglass with resin, vacuum-formed plastic and metal components. The hull is expertly studio painted in grays, black, yellow, and orange to resemble a penguin, with added “beak” at front, rotating “wings” at side, and flipper-like rudders (detached). The orange top deck is outfitted with wire railings, vacuum-formed gadgetry, antenna, and hatch doors. Conning tower with iceberg detailing, attached penguin with outstretched wings, cutout figure, and hatch door. Craft measures approx. 17″ x 28″ x 96.5″. Exhibits paint loss, warping to deck panels, broken wire, missing components, and the flipper-like rudders need to be repaired. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

Wanna see the sub pix all big-like? We’ve got you covered:

In your desktop browser, simply right-click the image and choose “Open image in new tab” from the pop-up menu. Select that new tab! Now it might still look small, but if you click it, it will expand in size. And, of course, you could always save it and open it up in your favorite image software!

A few thoughts:

— So, there was evidently more than one sub, because this is not the same model we’ve featured at 13th Dimension in the past. That Penguin Sub remains in the hands of its owner, the pseudonymous “Alfred.” Click here for a ton of up-close pix. A taste is below.

— The minimum bid is $5,000 and you can click here to follow the progress. The lot is part of the March 20-24 Treasures from Planet Hollywood Entertainment Signature Auction #7356.

Click here for more on the auction, because there are plenty of other items on the block, including a couple of Robin tunics.
