13 Zany Covers of SUPERMAN IN THE SILVER AGE

It’s a birthday two-fer!

Wouldn’t you know that two Silver Age Super-stalwarts share the same birthday: Artists Al Plastino (1921) and Kurt Schaffenberger (1920) were both born Dec. 15.

While Curt Swan was the dominant force in the Superman titles during the period, he was ably abetted by Messrs. Plastino and Schaffenberger (among others, of course). Therefore, I’ve decided to dedicate this 13 COVERS birthday salute to the both of them, featuring a variety of strange Silver Age tales across different titles.

Oh, and technically, there are 11 covers and two splash pages. I just couldn’t ignore two of Plastino’s biggest contributions to comics, which were in issues that didn’t feature his cover work.

Neither artist is with us any longer. But their Super-art remains.

  1. That Kennedy splash is always too much to see with all the history behind it both cultural and personal. Thx now some Fawcett related Schaffenberger again.
