13 SIZZLING SILVER AGE SCI-FI COVERS: A LEE ELIAS Birthday Celebration

The late comics stalwart was born 104 years ago, on May 21, 1920…

The late Lee Elias — born May 21, 1920 — may be best known for his work on Harvey Comics’ Golden Age hero the Black Cat, but he had a lengthy career featuring stints on many big-time characters, such as DC’s Golden Age Flash, Black Canary, Green Arrow and Adam Strange. He was the co-creator of Eclipso, one of my all-time cult-fave characters, as well as the very-of-its-moment Ultra, the Multi-Alien.

His output included a whole bunch of really groovy DC sci-fi covers in the Silver Age — and that’s what we’ve decided to spotlight for this 13 COVERS birthday salute.

Far out!

  1. My introduction to Lee was his wonderful work on the Human Fly. I loved that comic as a kid and still do. These are great covers.

  2. I bought Showcase #48 at a yard sale around 1979… It was the oldest comic I had ever seen in person, and became a prized part of my collection. I handled it like it was Action #1, and read it many, many times.
