13 GREEN ARROW AND SPEEDY COVERS: An Anniversary Celebration

The Emerald Archer and his red-breasted sidekick debuted 82 years ago…

You know what would make for a great Facsimile Edition? More Fun Comics #73, which featured the debuts of Green Arrow, Speedy and Aquaman, with a Dr. Fate cover story, and tales starring the Spectre and Johnny Quick. I’d pay six bucks for that. Or even seven.

Anyway, More Fun #73 was released 82 years ago, on Sept. 19, 1941, and we’re celebrating the Green Arrow angle with a 13 COVERS salute. (Click here for Aquaman.)

Mort Weisinger and George Papp created the Emerald Archer and his running buddy (heavily influenced by Batman and Robin) and we start our gallery with their first cover appearance, by Papp.

Swell!

  1. Although he’s not listed on the cover, 101 was the first appearance of Superboy. Apparently, he replaced Dover and Clover.
