Full disclosure: My heart belongs to East Coast Comicon. See, the reason is that the organizer, Cliff Galbraith, is a friend of mine and he was the guy who helped me create 13th Dimension. We’re no longer biz partners but I still help him out with his comics shows, because they’re a blast. Cliff loves comics as an artform and East Coast Comicon is just one of the ways he shows it.

As usual, I’ll be there this year but there are at least 13 great reasons for you to go too if you’re in the Northeast — or are planning to be. East Coast Comicon is at the Meadowlands Expo Center right across the Hudson from Manhattan, so it’s easy to get to. The show runs Saturday and Sunday and offers you a chance to get up close and personal with your favorite artists and writers, actors and animators, dealers and panelists. It is, in short, a really fun time. Click here for all the info on tickets, directions, and so forth.

And here are 13 GREAT REASONS to Go to EAST COAST COMICON:

1. Neal Adams, comics’ greatest living artist and a personal favorite of mine, will be there.

2. Lt. Uhura herself, Nichelle Nichols, will grace us with her presence.

3. The original Batcopter will be there. That’s right. The original. I’ve ridden in it! (Click here because it was AWESOME). Even though it’s still a flying machine, it’ll be inside during the show — but you’ll still be able to get up close and personal with Capt. Eugene Nock and his entertaining family of entertainers. (Plus: There will be a ’66 Batmobile, ’66 Batcycle, ’89 Batmobile, Tumbler, Monkeemobile — and more!)

4. All-time greats like Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Mike Zeck, Simon Bisley and Steve Rude will all be there. (For the full guest list, click here. Because I’m just scratching the surface.)

5. Boba Fett — Jeremy Bulloch — will be there. Boba Fett! So will Flash Gordon, Sam J. Jones. He’ll save every one of us!

6. There’s an epic cosplay contest, with a $1,000 first prize and a big pile of prizes from companies like NECA and Diamond Select Toys!

7. One of today’s biggest comics writers, Mark Waid, will be there, along with his partner, comics educator and writer Christy Blanch.

9. Cliff Chiang, an artist whom I wish I could draw like, will be there.

10. Ann Nocenti of Daredevil fame, one of the funniest and coolest people I know in comics, will be there.

11. Into animation? Ren and Stimpy’s Bob Camp and Bill Wray will be there — as will J.J. Sedelmaier of Ambiguously Gay Duo infamy.
