DC on Tuesday announced that in July, it will for the first time ever publish comic-book stories set in the universes of Superman ’78 and Batman ’89. Not adaptations — new stories. (Click here for all the details — including some of the characters expected to show up.)

The writer of Superman ’78 will be Robert Venditti and the art will be by Wilfredo Torres. (Batman ’89 will be by Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones.)

Well, if you’re a follower of Torres’ social media accounts, then you know he has a history of posting online sketches inspired by Superman: The Movie and its sequels.

Check out these 13 GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS that show off Torres’ superb Super-chops. Can’t wait to see what — and who — he has in store when the series launches. (Oh, and for 13 GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS: The BATMAN ’89 Art of JOE QUINONES, click here.):

Wilfredo Torres has been posting Superman illos on Twitter for years now.

  1. Wilfredo Torres is truly a super artist. It’d be awesome if he were to team up with artists like Nick Derrington and Jacob Edgar who have art styles similar to his.

  2. I love this! Instead of a limited series I would love to see this carry on indefinitely.
