13 Great BATMAN TEAM-UPS That Never Were

The Brave and the Bold could have been even braver and bolder…

For me, it’s Batman and Captain Marvel — the one Brave and the Bold team-up that I really would have loved to see back in the ’70s and ’80s.

For you, maybe it’s Batman and the Challengers of the Unknown or Batman and the Doom Patrol. There were so many possibilities — just look at the letters columns in those Bronze Age issues.

Anyway, I think of all this because this week Michael Eury’s superb The Team-Up Companion is out from TwoMorrows — click here for an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT — and when I think team-ups, I think The Brave and the Bold because of my Bat-wiring.

So with the kind permission of Ross Pearsall, the insanely creative mind behind the fab blog Super-Team Family… The Lost Issues!, we bring you 13 GREAT BATMAN TEAM-UPS THAT NEVER WERE, using Ross’ excellent mock-ups as illustrations.

Far out!

The Team-Up Companion is due Sept. 14, though that may vary a bit depending on the vagaries of shipping. The 256-page, full-color trade paperback lists for $39.95 and will be available through comics shops and booksellers. You can also order it directly from publisher TwoMorrows. Click here.

  1. What a trip down memory lane – Those are some of my very earliest covers from 2009, before I even decided to have a blog and was just messing around with MS Paint. Most I confess are pretty rough to look at but it’s fun to see where I started!

  2. These are pretty fascinating made-up covers. I do find myself leaning towards the “Shazam!”, “Doom Patrol,” and “Tarzan” covers the most.

  3. A Batman-Tarzan teamup would be cool. When I started reading this installment, I thought of Batman and The Phantom.

    • A Batman and Tarzan team up did happen. Two issue limited series… unfortunately I’ve never read it. Only seen pics online.

  4. I love these covers! However, the New Teen Titans one is a bit off on the dialogue. Can’t quite see Starfire saying “Clobber him”!

  5. I would love to have seen any of these back in the day! (Or seen any extra B&B comic! It was my favorite and one of the best!) Say, you think they could have done one with Johnny Thunder?

  6. A Tarzan/Batman Poster hung in the Filmation studios which featured Tarzan doing his Jungle Call with Batman standing next to Tarzan looking annoyed and plugging his ears. It’s the closet thing to an animated team up.
