CONAN and more by the late artist, who was born 96 years ago, on May 4, 1928…
The late Nestor Redondo — born 96 years ago, on May 4, 1928 — was part of the great wave of Filipino artists who hit American comics in the Bronze Age. Before that, he co-created with writer Mars Ravelo the Philippines’ greatest superhero, Darna, a cross between Wonder Woman and Superman who still enjoys tremendous popularity in the Asian nation.
He was an exquisite penciller for titles like DC’s House of Mystery and Rima, the Jungle Girl, but was also known for his fantasy paintings, which adorned covers for Marvel’s Savage Sword of Conan, Warren’s Eerie and other publications.
For Redondo’s first-ever 13 COVERS birthday tribute, we present a gallery of those sumptuous illustrations.
Far out.

Took him for granted when I was young. He’s such a wonderful artist.
