A BIRTHDAY SALUTE…
One of my favorite parts of doing BRONZE AGE BONANZA every month is checking out whatever Gil Kane had going on as one of Marvel’s chief cover artists.
A series he absolutely killed on? Daredevil.
Kane — who was born 99 years ago, on April 6, 1926 — didn’t do too many DD interiors, unfortunately, but he did do a bunch of covers. Kane’s dynamic, acrobatic style was ideally suited to the Man Without Fear, so dig this 13 COVERS birthday salute.
Far out!

I love Gil Kane’s work. Frank Giacoia was probably his best inker. Smoothed out the rough edges a little, but kept Kane’s style intact. Romita was his best inker for Spider-Man, but on just about anything else I love Giacoia’s inks on Kane’s pencils. Joe Sinnott did a great job with Kane’s pencil work, but that was usually limited to cover art. Most of these covers look fantastic.

Back when DD was a fun read for sure. Absolutely love Kane’s pencils. Those covers were made for the spinner rack.

121 was one of my earliest Marvel comics. What an exciting cover!

P. Craig Russell must have been influenced by Kane … also; i had no idea Killraven from Jessica Jones was an early DD character
