13 COVERS: A GIL KANE Birthday Celebration

Starring THE ATOM — a power-packed mighty mite!

The late, great Gil Kane was born 98 years ago, on April 6, 1926 (as Eli Katz).

I’ve long made it clear that I’m a huge fan of his 1960s Atom comics for DC but it’s been awhile since I’ve done a feature on them.

So dig these 13 COVERS — and I’m fairly certain I’ve never put a spotlight on any of them before. (All were inked by Murphy Anderson, by the by.)

Right on.

  3. It just occurred to me, unless I’ve overlooked it, DC has never collected the Atom’s Time Pool stories. That would be nice to have.

  4. Gil Kane’s work is iconic to me. Seeing these covers makes me feel like I’m browsing a spinner rack as an 11-year old.
The Atom and Hawkman, like a food pairing that at first seems odd, somehow works really well. Loved the issues when they teamed up.

  5. I absolutely love Gil Kaine! Wonderful stories like this fired my imagination and made me a writer! I read some of these in reprints in the 70s and I have a few other issues. Yes, a “Time Pool” collection would be so cool! Put me down for a copy!
