13 COVERS: The BATMAN ’66 of MIKE ALLRED

A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE…

Mike Allred turns 64 today and I owe the guy a debt of thanks. Y’see, Mike was an early supporter of 13th Dimension, generous with his time, especially when it came to Batman ’66. That’s why I made sure to include him in our recent 60th anniversary poll that determined the TOP 13 BATMAN ’66 EPISODES — RANKED.

So, now that it’s Mike’s birthday — and his colorist wife Laura Allred’s is Jan. 25 — I wanted to return the favor with 13 COVERS highlighting his Batman ’66 work.

All the covers are pencilled and inked by Mike, and colored by Laura. (By the way, Mike cast Christopher Lee as Ra’s al Ghul below because of this evergreen. Thanks, Mike!)

Right on.

  1. Covers for #12 & #22 are my favorite from this bunch. Does Mike do any commission work? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mike!

  2. Issue 30, where they break down every bad guy in the animated opening credits, is a classic.

  3. These are so cool. I thought Mike was about 20 years younger, so congrats in that department!

  4. Allred also did the covers and interior art for a Batman ’66 / Legion of Super-Heroes story.

  5. I wish Marvel would hire him to illustrate Spider-man. After Ditko there hasn’t been anyone to capture the Superhero Genre in Pop Art fashion until M.A. HBD!
