Lots of folks are headed to the beach or the pool this holiday weekend. While I’m sure you’ll have a great time if you’re headed out, on the shores of lakes and poolsides all over the romance comic-book universe, heartbreak ran rampant!

Whether because of competition or personal hang-ups these guys and gals are definitely not having the time of their lives. Let’s hope they wore sunscreen or they’ll be in for a double whammy!

Luckily, the inside of the romance comics weren’t as dire as the covers (gotta get consumer’s attention somehow, right?). The stories, quizzes, and text pages of 1960s and 1970s romances were full of advice on dealing with wandering eyes, untrue lovers and breakups in positive and healthy ways. While some of the advice from romance comics has gone the way of the dinosaurs, much of it is actually quite useful!

How to Go Steady Cover

To read more about heartbreak and how to cope comic book-style, visit the Kickstarter campaign for How to Go Steady: Timeless Dating Advice, Wisdom, and Lessons from Vintage Romance Comics. In the book, you’ll also learn how to meet that special someone, get tips on prepping for dates, and much more. But hurry — the campaign ends soon!
