13 COVERS: An ERNIE COLON Salute

The respected artist has died at the age of 88…

The word came down Friday that artist Ernie Colon had died the day before at the age of 88.

Colon had an especially varied career, having worked on projects as disparate as Casper the Friendly Ghost and The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation.

The former DC editor also co-created Arak, Son of Thunder, with Roy Thomas, and Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, with Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn.

Since we’re Bronze Age junkies here at 13th Dimension, this 13 COVERS salute spotlights those ’80s cult favorites.

Enjoy.

  1. I’m so sorry about Mr. Colon’s passing. I’ve read up on the “Amethyst” comics with his artwork in it.

  2. I remember the first time I saw Ernie Colon’s art, it was in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #179, Batman and the LSH.

    Rest In Peace!
