13 COVERS: A STEVE LIGHTLE Tribute

The ’80s artist has died at the age of 61…

Steve Lightle, the popular artist who came to prominence at DC in the 1980s, has died at the age of 61 due to COVID-related cardiac arrest.

I always dug Lightle’s style — a sweet combination of classic comics artistry through an ’80s lens.

He was best known for his work on Legion of Super-Heroes, so here’s a 13 COVERS tribute featuring the 30th century’s greatest heroes.

Steve Lightle, RIP.

  3. I always felt Lightle was one of the most underrated artists in comics. In my mind, one of the greatest cover artists ever. I only wish he had done more interior work to bolster his popularity, because he deserved to be bigger in the industry. That being said, I know thousands of folks loved his work, myself included, and I am very sad to hear this, for his family, friends and fans.

  4. Awful news. Absolutely one the most underrated artists ever. No one drew like him – he was completely unique and so, so talented. I loved his work on Legion and even as a kid I knew he was someone special. When I saw his wraparound cover on Doom Patrol #1 (1987), i actually gasped in the comic shop. My condolences to his family, friends and fans.
