13 COVERS: A STEVE DITKO Birthday Celebration

Steve Ditko was born Nov. 2, 1927. He’s 88 years old.

Steve Ditko. One of the most scrutinized and inscrutable creators in comics history.

This year, we’re doing a double 13 COVERS salute. In this installment, we’re featuring Ditko’s work for DC and Charlton — with characters that later became part of DC.

The other tribute? 13 SPIDER-MAN COVERS, which you can find here.

As usual, I’m going to emphasize my standard caveat: This is a subjective list and not a ranking of any kind. This is pretty much what I dig and you may feel very differently. So, rather than beef about a cover you don’t see, instead join in the fun and share your own choices in the comments section or in whatever social-media thread you saw this.

  1. I love that his character art is not cookie cutter like many of the newer artists. I would love to hear who he thought should be the Goblin. I’m thinking J. Jonah Jameson.
