He’s 90.

Steve Ditko, who was born Nov. 2, 1927, is more than just a comics great. He’s an artist whose body of work is foundational, inspiring fans and artists for decades.
His greatest accomplishment? Spider-Man.
So for this year’s 13 COVERS salute, we turn back to the ol’ Web-Head. Sure, I’ve highlighted Ditko’s Spidey work before — how could I not? — but this just seems to be the proper theme for a birthday with a nice, round number attached.

Fascinated with Ditko as the years have gone by and his seclusion, all at the height of Spider-Man and Dr. Strange in movies and popular culture. Would love to hear a good interview with him.

I was honored to be on the Amazing Spider-Talk podcast a few days ago, speaking about Steve’s work on Spider-Man and in the world of comics. In the process I hope to dispel some ongoing myths about the man: https://youtu.be/976l6HNJq2g
I’ve also paid tribute to his cover art throughout the decades on my blog: https://nick-caputo.blogspot.com/2017/10/covering-ditko.html

I saw the original artwork for most of these covers plus the 5 classic inside pages for “The Final Chapter” at a massive exhibition of Ditko’s work in Palma de Mallorca last year. Amazing!
