13 COVERS: A RICH BUCKLER Birthday Celebration

The late popular artist was born 75 years ago, on Feb. 6, 1949…

The late Rich Buckler — who was born 75 years ago — had a fairly eclectic career, working on about a million and six titles and characters.

In his travels, he landed at Archie in the 1980s, where he was the central creator for the publisher’s Red Circle Comics Group imprint, featuring characters that date back to the Golden and Silver Ages — the Mighty Crusaders, the Fly, the Shield and the Fox among them. Though interesting, these heroes have never caught on for the long haul.

Nevertheless, I’ve long been intrigued by this line and these characters, so for this year’s 13 COMICS birthday salute, it’s all Red Circle, all the time.

Dig it.

  1. That last one is a wraparound cover, of which you are only showing the right hand side.

  2. I love The Mighty Crusaders! I remember the Red Circle titles but I suspect my dealer wasn’t keeping them on a normal rotation. I would have bought them for sure. Package up an omnibus of the stories from the ’60s and ’80’s and I’ll buy it!
