A salute to the late, great Lt. Uhura — and the wonderful actor who originated the role…
As you almost certainly know by now, Nichelle Nichols, the wonderfully warm actor who played Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek, has died at the age of 89.
Uhura has long been one of my favorite Trek characters and Nichols always made the most of the moments when she had the spotlight, such as in Mirror, Mirror, Plato’s Stepchildren, Charlie X, The Gamesters of Triskelion, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home — as well as her perhaps her greatest scene, in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock:
