13 COVERS: A MIKE KALUTA Birthday Celebration

The acclaimed artist was born 75 years ago on Aug. 25, 1947…

This is seriously messed up. Somehow, someway, it’s been six years since the last time we posted a Mike Kaluta birthday salute. Kaluta’s art is all over 13th Dimension in other contexts — but 2016 was the last time he got the 13 COVERS birthday treatment.

I can’t explain it. I can only bow my head in contrition — and bring you 13 COVERS this year!

My gut instinct is always to go for horror where Kaluta’s concerned but I like to save a lot of that for Halloween season. So instead, this year’s theme is his fan-favorite work on The Shadow.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Kaluta knows.

Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha…

  1. Thank you for doing this. Mike Kaluta was the best comic artist of “The Shadow”! Absolutely magnificent artwork.

  2. Kaluta is the top Shadow artist– he rivals even the best of the pulp artists.

  3. I always loved the early DC series. Especially the meeting up with BATMAN, great stuff! The ‘30s and ‘40s are the best era for caped heroes in my own opinion.

  4. The cover with The Batman and The Shadow is one of my favorite images in all of comics! I’m lucky enough to own a copy, tho its beat up from countless readings. I’d love to get this and their other meeting in really great condition!.
