13 COVERS: A KEVIN MAGUIRE Birthday Celebration

The fan-fave artist was born 62 years ago…

Y’know what? I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love Kevin Maguire’s art. But, then, what’s not to love? He’s easily one of comics’ most expressive artists and his illustrations are imbued with a sharp wit that’s hard to emulate.

Maguire is turning 62 — he was born Sept. 9, 1960. My natural impulse for a 13 COVERS birthday salute is to spotlight his beloved work on the post-Crisis Justice League and its related titles.

But this time around, we’re going with Superboy, based on the late (though not necessarily lamented) syndicated TV show that ran from 1988 to 1992.

Why? Why not?

Dig it.

  1. Happy birthday to Kevin Maguire. I wonder how whatever layouts he draws would look under Kevin Nowlan’s inks?

  2. “(though not necessarily lamented)”

I give super-side-eye to this unjustified snark. The “Superboy” TV series was tons of underbudgeted fun.

DC should collect this comic book series in trade. I’d buy it.

  4. Maguire’s covers were a huge reason I collected that Superboy comic series.

  5. Interesting- a Superboy appearing in a black leather jacket before Kon-El in 1993.
