Jim Shooter was born Sept. 27, 1951. He’s 65.

Jim Shooter has had what could be reasonably called a controversial career. What’s not controversial is that he was one of the primary architects of DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes in the Silver Age, beginning a memorable mid-’60s tenure on Adventure Comics when he was still a teenager.
Given the Legion’s need for some love right now, I’ve picked the 30th century’s greatest super-team as the theme for this 13 COVERS birthday salute. (I used the same reasoning when celebrating the work of Mike Grell recently. So if you’re a Legionphile, click here for that awesomeness.)
Though Shooter was a writer who provided layouts for his Adventure issues, he wasn’t a cover artist. But Curt Swan and Neal Adams, two of the best in the biz, were — so I’ve split this selection between the two of them.
And, as always, if you don’t see your fave, just add it in the comments below or in whichever social-media thread you found this.

Happy Birthday, Jim, from someone one day older than you. I’ve enjoyed your art for years.

boy, you took me back in time here.
most of these covers were for terrific stories, but “When Superboy Walked Out on the Legion” was a fake-out. they just reprinted an old story and changed the title. even the cover scene was misleading. i showed it to my pop at the time, and he asked me why i didn’t call the Better Business Bureau.
alas, instead of doing that, i entered the Business.

I noticed that too. It was a stupid Superboy reprint
