One of the great war comics artists was born 98 years ago…

The late Jerry Grandenetti (born April 15, 1926) was one of the great design artists of the DC war comics, so much so that pop artist Roy Lichtenstein “borrowed” two of his works (and made much more money than Grandenetti did).

Other than a Rock team-up, in an issue of The Brave and The Bold, I was never into the war comics. But these covers are pretty exciting. I can appreciate the work that went into it now and see the story that my 8 year old eyes wasn’t seeing. I might need to look for some war omnibus if they exist.
