13 COVERS: A CURT SWAN Birthday Celebration

A Super-legend…

Curt Swan was born Feb. 17, 1920, so he would have been 98. (He died in 1996.) He, of course, left a lasting legacy on comics in general and Superman in particular.

He also drew some of the funkiest covers you’ll ever see, whether it’s Superman, Action Comics, World’s Finest or any of the other Superbooks.

I’ll keep this brief because I’ll be returning to Swan soon. So, sit back and dig these 13 COVERS, featuring some of Swan’s most striking — and wackiest — work on Superman itself:

  1. My favorite artist of all time, he’s basically the Norman Rockwell of American Comics, such iconic images and probably the greatest artist when it comes to body language, facial expressions and realistic human anatomy. (Just look at the covers presented above, the perfect expressions of confusion, sadness, shock and longing.)
And a true workhorse of the industry for 30+ years. If Alan Moore calls you definitive, you sure are.
