The late, great Bob Oksner — born 105 years ago on Oct. 14, 1916 — had a varied career that stretched from the Golden Age to the Bronze Age.
The highlights of his career are many — especially his highly popular work on Supergirl in the ’70s — but for this year’s 13 COVERS birthday salute, we’re spotlighting a selection of Silver and Bronze humor books, Oksner’s forte.

Thanks for the tribute to Bob Oksner, but no covers from what might have been his best work: Many Loves of Dobie Gillis? You could easily do 13 great covers just from Dobie alone, or mix and match in a few Windy & Willy’s!

Oksner is defnitely underappreciated. And I agree that he is tops at drawing pretty girls. He’s the John Romita of DC in that respect…even though Romita used to draw DC romance titles!

I think one of the things that helped Oksner “sell” the beautiful girls was that his fashion sense was dead-on. Their clothing really look convincing as real fashion, and not just generic “girl clothes”. It’s obvious he did his reference and kept up with modern trends.

I love Oksner, those Bob Hopes are some of my favorite comics… but so many of these covers look like Carmine Infantino laid them out for Bob to work over. Doesn’t make ’em any less interesting, just an observation.
