13 COVERS: A BILL SIENKIEWICZ Hall of Fame Salute

A Marvel-ous career…

Some of the most illustrious names in comics were inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, so this week we’re celebrating the work of an artful quintet of 13th Dimension faves — Bill Sienkiewicz, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Jim Aparo, Dave Stevens and Wendy Pini, who was chosen with her writing partner Richard Pini. (Writer/exec Paul Levitz was also among the class and you can check out THE PAUL LEVITZ INTERVIEWS here.)

Over five days, we’re bringing you fiveĀ 13 COVERS galleries — starting off with (randomly) Sienkiewicz.

Now, you’ll notice that this is a Marvel-focused selection. Why? Really for variety’s sake. Aparo and Garcia-Lopez, for example, are closely linked to DC while Sienkiewicz has done phenomenal work for both publishers.

So dig this selection of classic Sienkiewicz. (And if you want to see some of his DC work, you can always mosey over here.)

Dig it.

  1. Very cool to see you chose Bill’s cover to New Mutants #21, as that issue contains a little-known crossover with Wendy. During the slumber party, Dani mentions a character who’s a wolf, and one of the younger girls says “Hey, like in Elfquest? That’s rad!” Small universe!

  2. While Sienkiewicz is not in the top 10 of my favorite artists, he definitely does have a very unique and wonderful artistic style that should not be ignored.

While his art style is beautiful in Elektra and bizarre in New Mutants, I really like his work in Moon Knight the most. His style is perfect for that character. Which is the hallmark of a great artist to have a range of styles based on the subjects.
