13 COVERS: A BERNIE WRIGHTSON Birthday Celebration

Comics’ master of the dark would have been 70…

Bernie Wrightson is justly remembered as one of comics’ greatest horror artists, as well as the co-creator of Swamp Thing.

But Wrightson — who was born Oct. 27, 1948, and died just last year — also left his mark on the superhero best suited to the macabre realms he so richly illustrated: Batman.

So for this year’s 13 COVERS salute, we bring you some of Wrightson’s best images of the Dark Knight.

And if you want an artist’s perspective on Wrightson’s storied career and his legacy, click here for a tribute by Kelley Jones.
