A BIRTHDAY SALUTE!
When you think of Iron Man in the Bronze Age, you probably think of Bob Layton, which makes sense given his lengthy and acclaimed connection to the Armored Avenger.
So how about a 13 COVERS birthday salute — Layton was born 73 years ago, on Sept. 25, 1953 — that doesn’t have anything to do with Tony Stark?
I mean, why not?
Dig it.

Those are some great Layton covers! A lot of clever ideas in the Lay-out (ha ha) of some of these – the magnifying glass over Ant-Man, the Hulk in the mirror (objects in mirror more gamma-spawned than they appear), Thor’s hammer flying out of the cover. The team-ups look interesting with Dr Strange + Man-Thing, Spider-Woman + Werewolf By Night, Spider-man + Moon Knight. Cool to see a rare left-hand Iron Fisting. Spider-man looks like he’s on some of Kraven’s good drugs. And Dr Strange shouldn’t feel so bad he couldn’t save her, the poor lady looks 150 years old. Thanks for this great collection of covers & Happy Birthday Bob Layton! Felt like I was checking out this week’s selection on the comic book spinner rack.

Oh, no! Spider-Man!
And that is exactly why when some weird genius doctor came up to me and offered to create a clone of me, I refused.
I knew clones were nothing but trouble!

Hey, considering Scott Lang worked as an employee of Stark Industries for many years, I would say Marvel Premiere #47 has something to do with Iron Man 🙂

Happy birthday to Bon Layton, whose work I have always enjoyed and who was such a great guy to me when he produced such an amazing Iron Man sketch for me many years ago at a comic show in Toronto. My favourites on this list are in priority Amazing Spider-Man, Thor and Spider-Woman. I was half-expecting to see some Hercules, because Bob seemed to have a lot of fun doing that character back in the day.
