Zowie!!! I first saw A-Man in reprints in the 70s. And B’Wana Beast actually got a very cool and touching story in the animated “Brave and the Bold” series.

Artistically, I love EVERY Brian Bolland cover for the proto-Vertigo “Animal Man” run! But the nostalgia side of me recognizes my first exposure to Buddy Baker was the “Strange Adventures” 201 cover that was featured in Jeff Rovin’s “Encyclopedia of Super-Villains.” Yes, the Mod Gorilla Boss was a big enough deal to get a mention in that legendary tome!

Come on, DC. No self-respecting Mod Gorilla Boss would use the phrase ‘real McCoy’.
(Great collection of covers here, by the way.)
