SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN!

By KERRY CALLEN

From the moment I discovered Marvel Chillers #3 in the mid ’70s, I became a Tigra fan. There was something about the book, written by Tony Isabella (now Jenny Blake Isabella), pencilled by Will Meugniot, inked by Chiaramonte and Grainger, that I found irresistible.

Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Nightcrawler, and Tigra all were my teenage favorites. Sometimes I get the urge to draw one of them. And, sometimes I do! Here’s a piece based on Tigra’s origin panel in MC #3:

As an aside, there were TONS of “jungle women” in Golden Age comics (such as Tiger Girl, as seen on this 1947 cover of Fight Comics #53, by the Iger Shop and Joe Doolin):

All the women had plain skin and wore animal print bikinis. I think it’s fun Tigra does the flip of that!
