WHOOPS! WONDER GIRL’s Most Mundane Adventure — FINALLY REVEALED!

SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN!

By KERRY CALLEN

Sometimes I get, let’s say… quirky… commission requests. Last month, I shared art of a fake Wonder Woman 80-Page Giant showing WW doing very mundane things, like folding laundry and making toast. At the very bottom was a space filler that reads, “EXTRA! Wonder Girl Trips Over a Dog!” You could only see her hair and one arm. Soon, I received a new request to fully draw that scene! Ha ha! OK. I’m here to serve:

The requesting person wanted the early version of Wonder Girl, complete with a ponytail. I usually do a bit of research before starting a commission, and I came across something (mildly) interesting. Wonder Girl first joined the Teen Titans in 1965’s The Brave and the Bold #60, written by Bob Haney and drawn by Bruno Premiani.

The Brave and the Bold #60

In that story, she wore bracelets similar to Wonder Woman’s. Haney continued writing the team’s adventures in Showcase #59 and then in the regular Teen Titans series. Nick Cardy drew Showcase #59 and much of the ongoing title, but during the first seven issues, Wonder Girl didn’t wear any bracelets! It wasn’t until Irv Novick pencilled Issue #8 that her bracelets returned.

P.S. No animal was harmed in the drawing of this feature. Donna has super-fast reflexes!

  1. Wonder Girl best not lie about this one in court when the poor unnamed pup’s sues for Injuries. The poor pups’s lawyer William Moulton Marston will have her on the lie detector.

  2. I still want Wonder Girl to male voice impressions so good the Batcomputer can identify even an electronically distorted voice!

She did it only once, but c’mon! That’s a really handy skill to mess with minions and security systems!
