THE WARLORD BY MIKE GRELL OMNIBUS Coming This Fall

One of Iron Mike’s signature characters is getting the big-book treatment…

Back in the day, The Warlord was one of those series that the older teens would speak of in hushed, reverent tones.

“Yeah, Warlord, man…”

Well, Mike Grell’s long-awaited Warlord Omnibus is coming this fall, according to book distributor listings:

THE WARLORD BY MIKE GRELL OMNIBUS VOL. 1

Author Mike Grell. Illustrated by Mike Grell.

Enter the lost world of the Warlord, in this omnibus collection of legendary writer and artist Mike Grell’s revered sword-and-sorcery epic!

In 1975, DC made one of its most notable expansions beyond the world of superheroes with the introduction of the Warlord—a new fantasy hero created by writer and artist Mike Grell, later distinguished for his character-redefining work Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters.

Lt. Colonel Travis Morgan of the United States Air Force is attacked while on a reconnaissance mission over Russia. Fleeing toward the arctic circle, he is forced to abandon his dying aircraft over the Yukon—and parachutes through a swirling mist into the strange and unrecognizable land of Skartaris!

In Warlord by Mike Grell Omnibus Vol. 1, readers can journey to Skartaris and read the very first appearance of Grell’s famous creation, along with the first 50 issues of the Warlord series, which stands as one of the most influential comics runs of its era.

This volume collects 1st Issue Special #8, Warlord #1-50, and Amazing World of DC Comics #12.

On Sale Date: Nov. 25, 2025 | Hardcover | 1,040 Pages | $75.00 US

A few thoughts:

Amazing World of DC Comics #12 was the Mike Grell Spotlight issue, and boy, what a fun addition to this book. I’m guessing only the Grell portions of the mag will be in the Omnibus but it just reminds me how much we need an Amazing World collection in and of itself.

— Is this a hint that Warlord is indeed coming to James Gunn’s DCU?

Standard caveat: This has not been solicited yet, so nothing is official until it’s official.

  1. Wasnt Warlord DCs top selling book at one point?

    • Between the DC “IMPLOSION” and The New Teen Titans warlord was the best selling title.

      • I remember it being reported as the best-selling titles *in comic shops* But I’m not sure it was best-selling overall. I’d imagine one of the Superman titles sold better overall, considering the exposure from the Christopher Reeve movies. But I could be wrong!
