THE INFAMOUS KATIE ROGERS: The Version I Want Everyone to See

DESPOP TUESDAYS…

By DES TAYLOR

I do Marvel and DC all the time, but now I’d like to talk about my forthcoming book, The Infamous Katie Rogers.

The character has had a fascinating history: The Trouble With Katie Rogers was the first book I ever published, way back in 2009, but the character has been around since the year 2000.

She first made waves on the early social media site MySpace and at a series of parties in London and one after San Diego Comic-Con, before being published into a book, at first with Ape Entertainment and then with the motion-book publisher Madefire.

Both companies have since gone bust, and in an unfortunate turn of bad luck, the original files were destroyed on an old hard drive, and all the files for the motion book disappeared from the company’s servers. There was even an attempt to turn the book into a TV show with ITV Studios America (and presented to the CW network), but to no avail. The option money was good though!

So I’ve always felt there was unfinished business with Katie.

At first, she was just a PR girl working in the world of fashion in New York, but as I spent more time in Hollywood, talking with actors and with the rise of the celebrity influencer, I began to rewrite the character’s world… and her look.

Today, Katie Rogers navigates the world of celebrity culture, fake people, and social media, while trying to send a message to stand up for yourself, and those who can’t, in a cutthroat world.

This new iteration is 18+ and recommended for mature readers.

The book will be released next year via Kickstarter through Despop Publishing, and I look forward to showing everyone, FINALLY, the version of the book I want the world to see.
