The BATMAN #1 FACSIMILE EDITION Sketch Variant Is Almost As Groovy As the Classic Cover

Absence makes the heart grow fonder…

The Batman #1 Facsimile Edition is due Sept. 12 and, as is becoming increasingly commonplace, there’s a sketch variant to go along with it. (There’s a foil cover too but not my thang.)

Anyway, if you’re a comics fan at all, you know what the cover by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson looks like:

But dig the sketch variant — sans the Dynamic Duo:

Damn, that rocks!

Usually sketch variants just feature trade dress but this just drops Batman and Robin from the image instead. I can only imagine what inventive artists will come up with when given the opportunity to draw on this.

Oh, and the extra buck is because the cover is card stock. No matter, I’m getting the main version and this one, because how can I not?

  1. First thing that pops to me is the 10 cent price is missing. Looks so strange with the 3 digit price tag.

    • Yeah, but I appreciate that they used a similar font. An allowance for the price has to be made.

  2. For an $8 comic, they could easily indicate a “true” price in small print or on back cover or on bagged cover. Then again it’s not true facsimile with the size difference too.
