SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES Collection Returns in 2026

PLUS: The Wonder Woman Silver Age Omnibus, and a date set for the New History of the DC Universe hardcover…

DC is already scheduling its collected editions for 2026, with the first titles trickling out through book-distributor websites.

Your fandom may vary, but these are the three that have caught my eye so far: Superman in the Seventies, Wonder Woman: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 3, and New History of the DC Universe.

Dig the descriptions:

SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES

By Various

A classic collected edition returns, just in time for the Man of Steel’s biggest year yet!

In this collection of Superman tales from the ’70s, the Man of Steel finds himself facing more realistic challenges and issues that are representative of the era. Although he fought against some of his greatest enemies—such as Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and the Parasite—Superman also began to address societal issues and philosophical questions in these stories.

In these tales of social conscience, Superman loses his vulnerability to Kryptonite and questions his role as Earth’s protector, and the Man of Steel also revisits Smallville and looks back at his boyhood with older and wiser eyes.

Originally published in 2000, this collection includes work by comics legends Jack Kirby, Dennis O’Neil, Elliot S! Maggin, Neal Adams, Curt Swan, José Luis García-López, and more, and an introduction by Superman film star Christopher Reeve.

This volume collects Superman #233, #247, #248, #249, #270, #271, #276, #286, #287, Action Comics #484, DC Comics Presents #14, Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #1

NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE

By Mark Waid and Various Artists

In celebration of 90 years of DC, super fan and writer Mark Waid turns back time to the very beginning of the DC Universe in a four-issue miniseries drawn by some of DC’s greatest artists and told by the newest chronicler of time, Barry Allen, the Flash! In our debut issue, Barry takes us from the very birth of the DC Universe to the rise of the Justice Society. The Golden Age of heroes begins here!

Barry Allen takes us through the storied history of the DC Universe, one chapter at a time in this brand new four issue mini series by legendary creators Mark Waid, Jerry Ordway, and Todd Nauck! Starting from the very earliest days of the Justice Society of America in the Golden Age of the DCU and racing through each major era thereafter, The New History of the DC Universe is a genre-defying, definitive look at the world’s most popular superheroes.

A few thoughts:

— I’m kinda surprised DC would reprint 2000’s Superman in the Seventies when the stories are so well suited to a DC Finest edition. That said, at least there’s only one story that’s also in DC Finest: Superman — Kryptonite Nevermore, and that’s Superman #233. But there are different price points for different people and this is a survey of the era, as opposed to a comprehensive volume. Plus, it’s got Christopher Reeve’s intro!

— I was hoping the New History of the DC Universe hardcover listing would spill the beans on what other artists will be involved besides Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck (plus the various cover artists). Oh, well!

Standard Caveat: These have not been solicited by DC yet, so nothing’s official until it’s official.

  1. I sure hope that the listing on SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES is incomplete. From what I can tell from the volume on my shelf, this new volume (assuming the listing is correct) would collect fewer issues than the one already released. I’d much rather they expand the volume as they did for SUPERMAN IN THE FIFTIES a few years back.

And I’ll be waiting over here for a long-awaited reprint (and expansion) of SUPERMAN IN THE SIXTIES with a new forward by Waid or Peyer who love those books so dearly that their love makes ME love those books.

  2. I guarantee that CAPTAIN CARROT AND HIS AMAZING ZOO CREW! will be ignored in the NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE.

  3. I have that SUPERMAN in the SEVENTIES TPB. As I try to find collections that include comics I originally owned, I’ve found Superman particularly tough to fill those mid-seventies thru 1981 gaps.
