SIDE-EYE OF THE CENTURY: What Wonder Woman REALLY Thinks of Power Girl

SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN!

This one you file under, “If you know, you know”:

And if you don’t know — shame on you. It’s a riff on one of greatest celebrity pix of all time — Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield in 1957.

And yes, Ms. Loren was thinking exactly what you think she was thinking.

“I recently saw the famous photo of Sophia Loren giving Jayne Mansfield the side-eye to her revealing dress,” sez Kerry. “Since my brain is mostly filled with comic book characters, I immediately thought, ‘Wow! That would make a great Wonder Woman/Power Girl comic panel!’ I couldn’t stop myself from doing it.

You want to own the black-and-white original art, don’t you. Well, it’s on 12″ x 12″ Bristol board and Kerry has posted it to eBay. He’s also offering a signed color print.

“By the way, I ALMOST made Wonder Woman look like Sophia and Power Girl like Jayne, but decided it distracted from the joke,” Kerry added. “It’s not about cosplay. Admittedly, they would both make good models for the characters. You can see in my early sketch Wonder Woman looks more like Sophia Loren.”

  2. Loved this! And, yes, as soon as I saw it, I immediately knew it was based on the Loren/Mansfield pic before I scrolled further down to see it. As a side note, great as Sophia was, I saw “The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw” the other day and Mansfield was really good in it, with a lot of charm.

  6. This wouldn’t happen. Both women are confident and intelligent, and never would throw shade for costume choice.
