REVEALED! McFARLANE TOYS’ Next BTAS Wave Goes For Deep Cuts — And the BATWING

Including a first-ever MAXIE ZEUS!

McFarlane Toys on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con unveiled its next wave of Build-A figures for its Batman: The Animated Series line — and it’s an offbeat mix of classics and deep cuts. But that’s not all — the Batwing is coming!

Of the four main figures, two are standards: Batgirl and Two-Face. There’s also a Christmas Joker. But what’s likely to grab fans’ attention is the Lightning Strike Batman figure, which homages the 1993 Kenner repaint figure of the same name.

The Build-A fig, meanwhile, is Maxie Zeus — the first-ever action figure of the character in any line.

The four figs will list for $29.99 each and are due in the fall.

But all of that feels like a preamble to what’s likely to get BTAS fans into a tizzy — the Batwing:

A few thoughts:

— The Batwing list price is to be announced. Same with the exact pre-order and release dates for the wave.

— I’m blown away by the Maxie Zeus figure. The villain, created by Denny O’Neil and Don Newton in 1979’s Detective Comics #483, appeared in the BTAS episode Fire From Olympus. He’s had a HeroClix figurine, but that’s all.

— I’m curious to see what fan reaction is to Lightning Strike Batman. In the ’90s I bemoaned such repaints but as a nostalgia play, I think it’s hoot. Action figures are supposed to be fun, right?
