Read It Like It’s 1988: BATMAN, GREEN ARROW, THE QUESTION Re-Team in New Series

With a Denys Cowan/Bill Sienkiewicz variant cover derived from their famous poster…

DC Comics on Tuesday announced a new Black Label miniseries by Gabriel Hardman that will re-team Batman, Green Arrow and the Question — best known collectively for their 1988 “Fables” crossover written by Denny O’Neil, with art by Denys Cowan, Klaus Janson and others.

Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia is described by DC as “a bold, character-driven” four-issue series that will launch Nov. 26, 2025: “Hardman comes to DC Black Label with a hard-boiled modern twist on the DC thrillers of the 1980s, updating this opinionated trio of lone-wolf vigilantes, Batman, Green Arrow and the Question, for a new era of open class warfare and ecological collapse.”

“I’ve wanted to tell a story about Batman, Green Arrow and the Question since I was 14 years old and I couldn’t be more excited to finally get the chance,” Hardman said. “While I’m taking inspiration from the great work of Denny O’Neil, Denys Cowan and Mike Grell, this series isn’t an exercise in nostalgia. I’m taking the grounded approach they spearheaded in the late ’80s and moving forward, having these three difficult, opinionated personalities confront a contemporary brand of criminality on a global scale.”

DC added this description: Written, pencilled, and inked by Hardman, with colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr. and lettering by Simon Bowland, Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia unites three of DC’s most ideologically distinct heroes in an expansive narrative of global stakes and personal reckoning. As Bruce Wayne forms a tenuous bond with a billionaire climate visionary, Batman begins to question the true purpose of Arcadia—an ocean-sailing city, climate-hardened against weather extremes, being constructed off the coast of Greenland. Meanwhile, Green Arrow and the Question investigate the darker realities hidden beneath Arcadia’s utopian promise.

Issue #1 will feature a main cover by Hardman and a Kevin Nowlan variant. There will also be a cover based on Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz’s promotional poster for the “Fables” crossover between Detective Comics Annual #1, Green Arrow Annual #1 and The Question Annual #1.

It’s never been offered as a variant cover until now and will be available in standard card stock and virgin foil versions.

  2. Looks very cool. Does “based on” the Cowan-Sienkiewicz poster mean it’ll be a new piece by them (or other artists)?
