A few thoughts:

— Now that the solicitations are heading deeper into fall, I’m starting to wonder what next year’s themes will be, given Marvel’s plans on turning these into collections. I’d lay good money on the Fantastic Four being one of them, what with the movie coming out in July 2025. Maybe Secret Wars II? Hmm. Whattya think?

— Love that Charles Vess Spidey cover and that is one of the great Doctor Doom images.

Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, high-grade original Uncanny X-Men #244 recently sold on eBay for $75.

  1. That’s an interesting question. I feel with some of the movies coming out Fantastic Four and to a lesser extant Thunderbolts are a safe bet. From what we learned about the upcoming FF film, I assume there’s going to be a few reprints centred on their run in during the Silver Age. Would love to have all three issues of the Galactus trilogy.

However if Marvel is celebrating certain famous stories hitting 30th-50th anniversary year, Then we might be in for a treat. Secret Wars II is a good guess since it originally came out in 1985. Another idea, if Marvel still wants to reprint X-men books is Age of Apocalypse since that came out in 1995. One story I hope gets reprinted (although it’s probably just me) is the 12 issue run on Squadron Supreme. It’s one of my all time favourites and it’ll hit it’s 40th anniversary mark in 2025. Would be pretty sweet if that’s the next theme they go for.

    • I can definitely see Squadron Supreme. If the idea for these is to collect them as gallery editions, then that’s perfect.

  2. Secret Wars #10 does indeed sport a great Doc Doom cover. But credit goes to Mike Zeck and Terry Austin, not Bob Layton as listed. I believe Zeck did the interior art as well.

Layton, of course, was no slouch either when it came to depicting Doom, as Iron Man #149-150 amply demonstrate. Those are two of my favorite comics—in one of my all-time favorite creative team runs.

  3. I loved the Squadron Supreme limited series. I recently met Bob Hall at a comic con, and he was really great. Super nice guy. I’d love to see some FF reprints. I was not a fan of Secret Wars II, so I’m hoping they stay away from that.
