Mego Corp. is teaming up with Atlas Comics and Wal-Mart just in time for New York Comic Con!

Not just that — the long-awaited Marvel Comics line is coming in December. (Click here for much more on that.)

The Mego Museum interviewed Marty Abrams, Paul Clarke, and Bruce Katz from Mego on YouTube as they dropped the news on both lines. The Atlas range is based on the characters from the 1970s comics company formed by Marvel’s founder, Martin Goodman. During its brief tenure, Atlas/Seaboard challenged the comics industry and attracted talents like Larry Lieber, Steve Ditko, Jeff Rovin, and Howard Chaykin, to name but a few.

Recently, the Atlas properties were revived and optioned for a series of TV and film projects.

Mego is launching four new, 8-inch Atlas figures based on their classic comics designs next weekend at New York Comic Con. Wal-Mart will reveal the characters during the first three days of the convention and give away 100 of each figure (100 on Thursday, 100 on Friday, 200 on Saturday). One of them will be Devilina — meaning Mego is ready to return to female characters.

(UPDATED: The Grim Ghost surfaced Friday. Click here for a good look.)

Abrams will sign all four days of NYCC at the Wal-Mart booth.

The first-wave figures will come in a display box complete with a reprint of the character’s first issue. They are expected to be available at Walmart.com this December.

Keep coming back to 13th Dimension and the Mego Museum for updates. No word yet on the regular Mego Wave 19, which includes mostly DC characters.

  1. Wow ! That’s really good news. Never would have thought in a million years that there would be figures of the Atlas characters.

    • Are the creators of these characters, or their estates where relevant, getting any money from this?

  2. So when will someone snag the rights to these books and publish them in an omnibus?

  3. I could go for that.
