Good thing we aren’t actually a democracy but a republic. That said, these are some great covers especially The Invaders and All-Star Squadron.

    • A republic is a representative democracy,

      • I do not believe that many today who use the word “democracy” are actually truncating from “representative democracy”. I could be wrong but I don’t see it. (Youtube vides on college campuses alone are scary enough.)

That said, James Madison thought it bared importance to spell out the difference in the Federalist Papers #10 of 1787. When he wrote, “The two great points of difference, between a democracy and a republic, are, first, the delegation of the government, in the latter, to a small number of citizens elected by the rest; secondly, the greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country, over which the latter may be extended.” https://k12.hillsdale.edu/k12/media/Resources/Documents/Upper%20School/History/Federalist-10.pdf

I think much is lost in our modern translation of the word and its meaning. Just my .02 cents. Have a great day.

  2. Love that Uncle Sam rolling up his sleeve cover. Somebody’s about to get a fistful !

That Captain America #250 campaign pin cover is also iconic (minus the Toy’s R Us banner) !

  3. All I can think of when I see that National Comics #26 cover is, “Sam’s gonna give it to ya. He gon’ give it to ya.”

  4. There are different types of democracies. America is a representative democracy, in which the people chose people to represent them in governing the nation. Sigh.

  5. Wow! Thanks for this! Am watching the returns nervously right now! I’d never seen the Uncle Sam covers; I loved “Freedom Fighters!”
