Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, Act 4/Image/DC. The first book from Scott Dunbier’s new Act 4 shingle finally bursts out, and it’s a doozy. This is the cover I’m getting (naturally) but there are others too.

—
Sensation Comics #38 Facsimile Edition, DC. The second Christmas Facsimile Edition DC has for us this year — the first was a ’70s treasury — and I am totally down for it. There is something special about Christmas in the Golden Age and this FE release was a welcome surprise when we first got word of it. Foil and logo sketch covers too, natch.

—
Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #5, DC. The finale of what’s been a fantastic Superman miniseries. W. Maxwell Prince and Martin Morazzo have given us the spirtual sequel to All-Star Superman we deserve. Excellent from top to bottom and I hope it gets Eisner recognition because it’s earned it. I’m going to miss this. Wonderful.

—
The Batman: Second Knight #2, DC. Jurgens and Perkins have been quietly putting together a potential franchise within the franchise. If they keep it up with a new 3-parter every year, I’ll be quite pleased. Inevitably Robin will join the fray, and boy won’t that be a kick.

Plus, there’s this legitimately terrifying variant:

—
The Avengers #33, Marvel. With the latest Bicentennial Calendar Hidden Gem variant, featuring the art of Jim Mooney.

—
Civil War #5 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. Having never read this series until now, I can totally understand why Marvel Studios opted to adapt the concept. I’m not big on hero vs. hero stuff but this was really well done. I know I’m not the first to say that.

—
Batman & Robin: Year One, DC. Both the hardcover and softcover collections of the 12-ish Mark Waid and Chris Samnee series are out at the same time. Take yer pick.

—
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #46, DC. More Luthor/Joker chicanery. Just hit me that Issue #50 is coming. I wonder what’s in store because I bet it’ll be a blast.

—
Daredevil/Punisher: The Devil’s Trigger #2, Marvel. Michael Cho should do a variant cover for every comic that comes out.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension
Batman – Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns, DC. Let me get this straight: a Christmas teamup with Batman, Zatanna, Robotman, Mary Marvel and Santa Claus? Sold. Collects last year’s five-issue mini.

—
Battleworld #4, Marvel. Really enjoying this series, mostly for the character interplay.

—
Hawkeye Epic Collection: Marked For Death, Marvel. Another collection of Solo Avengers, one of my favorite ’80s Marvel series.
