HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia, DC. Gabriel Hardman gives us his spin on the ’80s Batman, Green Arrow and the Question, featuring a variant cover by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz, derived from their promotional poster for the 1988 “Fables” crossover written by Denny O’Neil, with art by Cowan, Klaus Janson and others. A 4-part Black Label series.

Detective Comics #1103, DC. Superman — and, more importantly, Lois Lane — show up in Gotham to help out the stricken Dark Knight. Batman and Lois are always fun together.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Batman & Robin: The Animated Adventures, DC. Wonderful BTAS tales by Paul Dini and Ty Templeton!

Battleworld #3, Marvel. Love seeing the return of the Dave Cockrum-designed Ms. Marvel uniform.

Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor Vol. 24, Marvel. Walt Simonson’s landmark Thor run continues with the opening of the Casket of Ancient Winters!

Dan adds: If you dig Simonson Thor, then you’ll dig this variant for The Mortal Thor #4:

  1. Is the “Batman & Robin: The Animated Adventures, DC.” from a particular run? Also, anyone know if the Thor cover is new recently hired work or something sitting in a drawer?

  2. Really looking forward to Arcadia. I just recently re-read the omnibuses of the late ’80s Green Arrow and Question and found that they hold up surprisingly well (my ongoing great re-read of DC’s 1980s post-Crisis output has been one pleasant surprise after another in discovering how good much of that material really was). So I’d love to see a contemporary riff on that material. I also thought Gabriel Hardman’s Green Lantern Earth One was really terrific (probably my favorite GL story, and I’m bummed it never got a volume three to finish out the story). So I have really high hopes for this.
