Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Jimmy Olsen’s Supercyclopedia, DC. A standalone graphic novel by Gabe Soria and our old pal Sandy Jarrell that takes Jimmy Olsen on a multiversal adventure with Rip Hunter and Linda Park. Apparently, everyone who’s everyone in the DCU shows up at some point and there are “Supercyclopedia” entries besides. This one has flown under my radar but it sounds like an awful lot of fun.

G.I. Joe #21 Silent Missions Edition, Skybound/Image. Reprinting Marvel’s 1983 dialogue-free classic Silent Interlude by Larry Hama and Steve Leialoha.

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family — Robin Lives!, DC. Collects the “fauxsimile edition” of Batman #428, in which Jason Todd lived, and the follow-up miniseries last year by J.M. DeMatteis and Rick Leonardi. It was an interesting exercise that drew from Marvel’s What If’s conceit that if a landmark story had a different ending, it was almost certain to leave the characters worse off than they were in the canonical version. (Also includes the original Death in the Family.)

Batman #614 Facsimile Edition, DC. OK, I have to say it. I don’t like it when Jim Lee draws the Joker like some weirdass goblin. That nose!
—
Two-Face #5, DC. The miniseries has been leaning more toward Harvey’s psychodrama than the initial concept of bonkers underground court cases. I’m only slightly disappointed because it’s a solid story.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension
DC Finest: The Peacemaker — Kill for Peace, DC Comics. The original Charlton Peacemaker tales, never before reprinted by DC!
—
Concert of Champions #1, Marvel. I love the idea of a Dazzler/Lila Cheney team-up series.
—
Defenders Epic Collection Vol. 3: World Gone Sane, Marvel. Steve Gerber’s wonderfully weird Defenders run begins here!
—
Marvel Masterworks: Avengers West Coast Vol. 1, Marvel. The Steve Englehart/Al Milgrom debut of West Coast Avengers is one of my favorite runs.

The first person to write “Kill For Peace” was Tuli Kupferberg of the Fugs. A distance relative of Paul Kupperberg?

Gerber’s Defenders remains one of the all-time greatest runs ever. And the Headmen saga is top ten for me right next to Watchmen!!
