HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Justice League Unlimited #1, DC. Mark Waid and Dan Mora launch a new title that takes its cues from the animated series of the same name: There’s a core group, but most other heroes in the DCU are considered part of the League. The storytelling possibilities are endless and if the current JLA/JSA vs. Eclipso story in World’s Finest is any indication, this will be a blast. Plus: We get a prelude to Jeph Loeb amd Jim Lee’s upcoming Hush 2. Why do I have a feeling this will sell a lot of copies and that we’ll see a gazillion printings? Just a hunch.

Scott adds: Mark Waid tackling the JLU concept in comics. My pick of the week.

Batman: The Long Halloween — The Last Halloween #3, DC. You know what stands out about this series, so far? Well, the great rotation of artists naturally — this month it’s Mark Chiarello — but it’s also the page count. Comics are shorter these days and just when the first two issues picked up steam, they screeched to a halt. So either, A) writer Jeph Loeb, who is accustomed to composing longer epics, is having a bit of a tough time pacing his story; B) said pacing will improve as we move along; C) I’ll get used to it; D) it will read better as a whole; or, E) all, none or some of the above.

That’s not to say I haven’t liked it so far. I have. But it’s been a little difficult to get fully absorbed.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #19, DC. In case you missed it, here’s a very important Public Service Announcement about this cover.

Betty #8, Facsimile Edition, Archie. The third in Archie’s new line of Facsimiles. There will be more, I hear. Be patient.

Back Issue #156, TwoMorrows. The Bronze Age Graphic Novels Issue!

DC Finest :The Flash – The Human Thunderbolt, DC. The more of these new DC Finest editions I get, the more I like ’em.

West Coast Avengers #1, Marvel. Is Iron Man back in the Silver Centurion armor? I’m in.

Thor Epic Collection Vol. 10: The Eternals Saga, Marvel. Here’s an opportunity for me to ignore the Eternals in someone else’s book instead of ignoring them in their own book like I usually do.
