HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman & Robin: Year One #1, DC. After years of beating the drums for such a thing, and months of waiting for it to arrive since it was announced, Batman & Robin: Year One #1 by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee is here. I can tell you it’s first-rate on all fronts and I can’t wait for you to read it. The first issue definitely lives up to the promise. Meanwhile, check out Mark’s 13 FAVORITE BATMAN AND ROBIN STORIES. Click here.

Scott adds: I am loving the current Mark Waidiverse being built up over at DC these days.

Nightwing #118, DC. Well, this is a bittersweet week. The start of an exciting new series — and the end of a favorite run. Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo bid Nightwing adieu after a rightfully acclaimed run that gave us the definitive adult Dick Grayson. This is how I imagined Robin would be when he grew up, so it’s fitting that it comes as B&R: Year One begins. Nightwing’s been a rare case of me reading the issues, then buying the hardcovers. It belongs on the shelf next to other great Batman Family stories.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #32, DC. Eclipso’s in town and he’s got the Justice League reeling. A fun, modern look at the Satellite Era JLA.

Innocence and Seduction: The Art of Dan DeCarlo — Expanded Edition, Fantagraphics. By our pal Bill Morrison! This one’s on my Chanukah list because nothing says Festival of Lights like buxom women.

Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 Facsimile Edition, DC. THIS IS IT! DOUBLE-SIZE SHOCKER!

The Amazing Spider-Man #261 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. The penultimate issue of the yearlong run of Facsimiles. If you want to know what’s coming for 2025, click here. Meanwhile, sweet Charles Vess cover.

Batman: Resurrection, Random House Worlds. A new novel by John Jackson Miller that’s a direct sequel to Batman ’89. Not sure what to make of it yet, but it’s definitely interesting.

Joe Jusko’s Art of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces, FPG. Includes all 104 paintings Jusko produced for the classic card series, plus 20 others he did for the four-ish comics collection that came out the following year. Not just that, Jusko’s pencil sketches for the original 104 paintings are being published for the first time.

Scott Tipton, columnist, 13th Dimension

Avengers Assemble #2, Marvel. Red Ghost and his Super-Apes?! Now we’re talking.

Crypt of Shadows #1 Marvel. I don’t know what this is or who’s behind it, but I do like that lineup.

Dan adds: A spooky one-shot featuring various talent, including Ben Percy, Steve Orlando, Jason Loo and Raffaele Ienco. Cover by Leinil Francis Yu. Want some Bronze Age Crypt of Shadows? Click here.

Marvel Masterworks Tomb of Dracula, Vol. 4. Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan’s legendary Tomb of Dracula run is always worth your dollar.
