HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Death in the Family: Robin Lives! #3, DC. Good miniseries — and I especially dig seeing the return of Disco Nightwing!

Plus, the variant by Inhyuk Lee (perhaps homaging a similar cover by Lee Weeks) is a outta sight!

Wolverine #1 Variant Cover, Marvel. Speaking of grand use of negative space, behold this John Tyler Christopher beaut!

Batman ’66 Omnibus, DC. A new printing collecting the entire main 30-issue print series, plus the Lost Episode special by Len Wein and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, based on a Harlan Ellison treatment for a Two-Face ep. The series was uneven but the highs were pretty darn high.

Gatchaman #3, Mad Cave. The Ken standalone was solid. The Galactor mini is… OK. The main series? Excellent!

Nightwing Uncovered #1, DC. A collection of, well, Nightwing covers! I’m getting the Giuseppe Camuncoli variant. By the way, the cover was originally shown with the Detective Comics #38 peach background. I think I would have preferred if they’d kept it that way.

Batman and Robin #13 Variant Cover, DC. The latest Batman 85th anniversary cover, this one by Carmine Di Giandomenico, saluting Batman #1 and Batman Forever.

Space Ghost #5 Variant Cover, Dynamite. I know I’m picking a lot of variants this week, but Michael Cho’s Space Ghost alternates have been wonderful.

Scott Tipton, columnist, 13th Dimension

Avengers Assemble #1, Marvel. Loving this new roster. Very excited for this series.

The Avengers by Kurt Busiek and George Perez Omnibus Vol. 2, Marvel. Always happy to see my favorite Avengers run of all time back in print.

Fantastic Four #25, Marvel. The flying bathtub is back! Sold.

  1. Couldn’t pass on the wonderful Space Ghost cover. I’ve had my copy on order for sometime now.

  2. DC is throwing money away by not releasing an omnibus (or two) every year containing all the covers for all the books they published in the previous year–I’m sure many would buy such a book!

  3. The Batman movie getting a homage in that B&R #13 cover is actually BATMAN FOREVER, Kilmer and O’Donnell.

  4. Ummm, Gatchaman #3 came out last week. I hope your comic shop still has it, as the one I frequent sold out on the release day.

    • I’ve been pre-ordering many from stores that advertised on eBay. I see that comic still listed by many there.

I just struggled to find a shop with a quality run website. Too many look like they were designed in the ‘90s. With eBay things are easily tied to PayPal and you can compare prices and shipping. The closest I came to an online store was Midtown Comics NYC.
