Batman and Robin by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason Book One, DC. A new paperback volume collecting the excellent series. Tomasi writes Damian Wayne better than anyone than Grant Morrison himself. A wonderful book, featuring inks by the groovy Mick Gray and colors by the talented John Kalisz.

Mad Magazine #36, DC. A very au courant cover, but that’s been Mad’s specialty since the 1950s.
—
Ultimate Spider-Man #1, Marvel. Second printing. I’m going to try this because I’ve heard decent things. Not sure if I’m in for the long haul. Just want to check it out.

Beware the Planet of the Apes #2, Marvel. This looks very much in the spirit of the original film. Color me intrigued.
Dan adds: I dug the first issue despite some odd continuity blips. But then again, the original Planet of the Apes movie series was jammed full of inconsistencies, so who am I to criticize?

Blade #8, Marvel. Loving this cover from Elena Casagrande.

Luke Cage Epic Collection: The Fire This Time, Marvel. The end of Luke Cage’s original solo run, plus the debut of Bill Foster as Giant-Man! Sweet Christmas!

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #1. One needs to ask, is Spidey really Spidey – more to the point, is PETER PARKER really Spidey – when you remove “With great power….” from his story? Sure, it’s written and drawn well, but is that enough?
